Description
Mealworms live inside their food, so the substrate is both bedding and diet. Ours is whole oats milled to a fine powder that even newly hatched larvae can eat. When the layer has turned to frass, sieve out the larvae and refill with fresh powder.
Fill trays 3–5 cm deep and keep it dry. Moisture comes from vegetable slices on top, never from wetting the substrate. Suits mealworms, superworms and their beetles.
